“I think neurofeedback is the single most effective intervention that can be brought to improve brain function in a person compromised by brain injury.”

– Nora Gedgaudas

Because Nora’s current work is focused on nutrition, when she and I started this podcast, we were not expecting to focus it on neurofeedback. Nora Gedgaudas has been a great friend for many years now and I have so much adoration for her work. I met Nora at the International Conference on Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine in 2013 (you can read my post about that experience here), which was when she told me about the numerous benefits of neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback, also known as Brainwave Biofeedback, EEG Biofeedback, Neurobiofeedback or Neurotherapy, is an extremely powerful, non-invasive means of exercising, strengthening and regulating the central nervous system. It is a powerful technique to mediate neurological stress. In fact, in the podcast, she said “I think neurofeedback is the single most effective intervention that can be brought to improve brain function in a person compromised by brain injury.”

Nora underwent intensive training with EEG Spectrum in 1997 and closely mentored with some of the pioneers of neurofeedback, (Dr. Siegfried and Susan Othmer). Nora continues diligently to remain abreast of advancements in the field and operates with the newest in neurofeedback technology and advanced neurofeedback protocols in her clinical practice.

While Nora has an extensive background in numerous areas surrounding neurotechnology, her work in nutrition is her current focus. Nora Gedgaudas is an internationally acclaimed keto and ancestrally based nutrition specialist who has dedicated her career to combating “diseases of civilization” – such as metabolic disorders, cancer, mood disorders, and cognitive decline.

Nora is certified in clinical nutrition and neurofeedback and is the bestselling author of Primal Body,, Primal Fat Burner, and also Rethinking Fatigue: What Your Adrenals Are Really Telling You and What You Can Do About It.

Known as one of the early adopters of the low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet, Nora combines current research with evolutionary biology, physiology, biochemistry, metabolism, nutrition, autoimmunity and chronic and degenerative disease for mind-body health and longevity.

Like me, Nora believes that ancestral roots and modern science can effectively combine to create a more optimized nutritional approach to your health and well-being, and we both see it happen day after day!

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Nora’s journey into brain health and brain training.

  • Nutrition as the foundation of Neurofeedback.

  • Limitations of neuroimaging.

  • The safety and efficacy of neurofeedback, and how it can be used to help the brain rehabilitate neurological stability.

  • The food that everyone should remove from their diets.

  • Ketogenic metabolism and brain benefits.

  • Primalgenic as a starting place for optimal health.

  • Sympathetic dominance in modern times.
